Subtitles

When subtitles are provided by broadcasters, you can get them through Virgin TV.

You should be aware, though, that not all programmes carry subtitles and that that there are two different types, depending in which channel you are watching.

Here's how to turn them on:
The first are called digital subtitles (DVB) and are delivered via your cable set-top-box:
  1. To turn these on, grab your cable remote control.
  2. Go to Settings and Services
  3. Then choose Display & Audio
  4. Nextpick Display Subtitles and select [On]

This leaves your subtitles permanently on. And if a channel carries digital subtitles then they will automatically be displayed when this setting is ON.

The second are called (VBI) and are provided via TeleText:

To turn these on you must have a Teletext TV and use your TV remote control. Simply push the TEXT button and select page 888.

Audio Description

Audio description is also available on a variety of programmes and channels. The main terrestrial broadcasters only make AD available on their national service, and it is not supported on the regional variations.

To hear the audio description, just follow these steps:

  1. Grab your cable remote control
  2. Navigate to Settings and Services
  3. Choose Display & Audio
  4. Switch Audio Description [On]

Then tune in to the following channels and off you go...

  • BBC1 England
  • BBC2 England
  • ITV1
  • Channel 4
  • Five

Oh, and just to let you know, Virgin Media have no input into which programmes carry Audio Description and which don’t. This is controlled by the broadcasters who own the individual channels. But where there's an Audio Description channel available, we'll always make it available to you.
