Virgin TV Anywhere on Android devices

It is important for us to protect our content owners' rights and also to provide an excellent quality service, and for these reasons we only allow Virgin TV Anywhere to be used on certain devices.

However we have tested Virgin TV Anywhere on a wide range of popular Android mobiles and tablets, and it has been optimised to work on this list of currently supported Android devices.

Note that there are also a few Android devices on this list that can only be used to manage your TiVo box, but not to watch live TV. Also, Android version 4.4 (KitKat) is not yet supported, and you may have problems streaming live channels in home mode on some devices. See our trouble-shooting section for more details.

  • Which Android tablets and mobiles can use TV Anywhere?

You can see exactly what devices can install and use the TV Anywhere app on this device list. This list is updated regularly so check back if your device is not supported.

  • If my device can't stream live TV, can it still be used to manage TiVo?

There are some Android devices that can be used to manage your TiVo box but not watch live TV. If your device cannot even be used to manage TiVo, you can still use the Android TV Guide app to record episodes and set series links remotely for TiVo. Search for TV Guide in Google Play on your device. You can also go to virginmedia.com/tvanywhere on any computer to manage your TiVo recordings.

  • How do I find the model number and Android version of my device?

In general you can find these details by clicking on Settings on your Android mobile or tablet, and then click on About device, About tablet or About phone. Depending on the version of Android your device is running on, you may see Model number and Android version in the menu, or you may need to tap on Phone identity and Software information respectively to get this information.

  • My device is on the list. Why isn't it working?

If your tablet or mobile is on the list of supported devices but you are still having problems, there are some other factors that may prevent it from working:

    • • older devices may have older versions of Android; in general you require at least Android version 2.3.3 on mobiles and version 4.0 on tablets; you may need to update your device to the latest available operating system, but please be aware that Virgin Media can not be responsible for any problems you may encounter whilst upgrading your operating system
    • • different phone providers or mobile network operators may supply slightly different versions of the operating system, not all of which will work with TV Anywhere
    • • devices supplied from outside the UK may not work, as they may also have different versions of the operating system, not all of which will work with TV Anywhere
    • • TV Anywhere will not work on rooted devices, where unauthorised modifications have been made to the operating system, as these may prevent our content owners' rights from being protected.

If you need more help, or if you want to report that your device should work but doesn't, then you could try talking to the experts on the Virgin Media Community forum

  • Why isn't my device supported?

It's important for us to protect our content owners' rights and also to provide an excellent quality service. Some older Android devices will not allow us to this, and we prevent the app being installed or used on those devices. We do make changes to the list of supported devices regularly, so check back again if your device is not supported.

If your Android mobile or tablet is fairly new, and is set to be a popular model in the UK, then there is a good chance that it will be added to our list of supported devices very soon.

However, many older Android devices are not capable of providing a reasonable quality of streaming, and we will not be able to support these devices.

If your device is not on the list, you can still use our TV Guide app for Android to record episodes and set series links for TiVo from outside the home. Search for TV Guide in Google Play on your device.

  • Which operating system does my Android device require?

In general you require at least v 2.2.3 on Android mobiles and Android v4 on tablets. Check the device list for more information.

If you are having problems finding or installing TV Anywhere on your Android app, you may need to update your device to the latest available operating system, but please be aware that Virgin Media can not be responsible for any problems you may encounter whilst upgrading your operating system.

  • Why isn't the channel I want to watch available on my Android device?

This is likely to be because the channel isn't available on TV Anywhere. In general, the same channels and shows are available on all tablets and mobiles. Sometimes content providers request that individual shows are blanked as they don’t have the rights to stream this show on TV Anywhere. You may still be able to set your TiVo box to record these show though. Individual shows that are blanked within an available channel will be blanked on all mobile and tablet devices. If your device is not supported, then you will not be able to see any channels - if your device is supported, you will be able to watch all the live TV Anywhere channels available in your package. To be able to stream a live channel, you must have a supported device, there should be a Wi-Fi symbol next to the channel in the guide, and the channel should not be greyed out as a channel you don't have in your TV package.

  • Where can I get a phone that I can watch live TV on with TV Anywhere?

Check out these deals from Virgin Mobile on the Samsung Galaxy S III mini, which is a great entry level phone with full TV streaming capability.
