You'll need plenty of these...
Hosting your own festive shindig is often seen as one of those good ideas at the time which eventually spiral into a whirlwind of chores and organisation procedures.
If you want your party to be remembered you will need to apply thought and organisation before the fun can begin.
Bear in mind the space you have available. Too few guests and you will create the feeling of twenty ants on a football pitch, too many and the crowd will just feel uncomfortably claustrophobic (not to mention sweaty). Bearing this in mind, remember that not everyone you invite will be able to attend. Don't take this personally - it doesn't mean you are unpopular, it's just inevitable. The equation is roughly as follows: you invite 30 people, only 20 will make it, so don't worry if your suggested guest list is too long - it will probably equal out perfectly.
Give people enough time to make the necessary arrangements to attend. Friends far out will need around three weeks, pals closer to home two weeks, and as for those people who live spontaneously or forget things in the space of 48 hours - give them 47 hours notice. Take on the role of a PR person when advertising your event. Whether it be through a text or gold-rimmed embossed cards tied to white pigeons, do it with style and make people feel their presence is important. Suggest a time to arrive an hour earlier than you actually want them to attend - after all, when was the last time you arrived at a club at door-opening time?
