Behind the numbers in 2014: Fleet management and efficiency 1

6th July 2015

Target:
Reduce the average CO2 emissions of our car fleet from 110g CO2/km to 100g CO2/km.

Improve the average miles per gallon across our van fleet by 5%

How we did:
We reduced the average CO2 emissions of our car fleet from 110g CO2/km to 103g CO2/km in this period. This is 3g CO2/km short of our target and we were 1% short of our average mile per gallon target.

We achieved a 4% improvement in average mileage per gallon across our van fleet (27 to 28 MPG) which is 1% short of the target.

The detail:
By the end of 2014 we had nearly 4,000 vehicles in our fleet and had clocked up around 32 million miles on the road. With this in mind, improving the efficiency of our fleet continues to remain a key focus area.

In 2014 we didn’t reach our 10g CO2/km reduction goal for CO2 emissions of our car fleet, though we did get close with a 7g CO2/km reduction – that’s a 6.4% reduction against 2013.

We fell 1% short of our 5% reduction target for average miles per gallon across our van fleet because we did not replace enough of the van fleet with newer models with a higher miles per gallon performance - we’ve been driving down the average miles per gallon of our company car fleet by replacing our older, less efficient company cars (Vauxhall Astras, with 139g CO2e) with a better performing model with lower carbon emissions (Ford Focus, with 99g CO2e).
