When playing music on an MP3 player, the information displayed on screen is stored in ID3 tags, which are incorporated in the music files. While MP3s bought from music sites generally have all the correct track information attached, there are occasions when editing is necessary.
Visit www.mp3tag.de/en and download the free program Mp3tag. Once you’ve installed and launched the program, click the File menu and select ‘Change directory’ before navigating to a folder containing music files. In the case of complete albums, select all of the files and fill in artist and album information to the left of the screen before clicking ‘Save tag’ in the File menu.
To apply names to individual tracks, select each in turn from the list to the right and enter the relevant information to the left of the screen. After editing a file’s tags, remember to click the Save button before moving onto the next track or changes will be lost.
