Phone Review: LG KP202

LG KP202 phone
The KP202 is LG's new entry level phone. While the Chocolate, Shine, and Prada ranges are aimed at the luxury phone market, it is nice to know that they haven't forgotten the rest of us.

While the KP202 may not look particularly inspiring, it does have everything the average mobile user needs on a day to day basis and, keenly priced between £35-50, there's plenty to like, even without the flashy extras. The clamshell exterior is basic, but definitely not ugly or obtrusive, and at only 20mm thick, it is pocket-sized. The appearance is improved somewhat by the keypad, which will accommodate even the chubbiest of fingers, and menu functions and tasks such as texting are easy to get to grips with. The phone features a WAP browser, VGA camera, Java games and MMS messaging. Sure, it may only come with one game, but it's easy to download more, and the WAP browser is easy to negotiate. At only 0.3 megapixels the camera is not much to shout about. Picture quality is poor, but it does have a continuous shot mode allowing you to capture 3 photos in a row, and it comes with 64MB onboard memory. There is also the option of 4x zoom and white balance enhancement. The main problem with the camera is that it's tricky to get the pictures onto your computer. With no Bluetooth and USB port you will have to make sure you don't lose the data cable that comes with it. Screen quality is basic at best, and there's no way to play music so if you are looking to impress then this isn't the phone for you. However, if you just can't seem to hang onto a phone, or can't be bothered with the ever more complicated luxury models, then this could be a good option. Verdict:

A good-looking basic budget phone with decent call quality and battery life. Value for money, but don't expect to turn heads.
