Review: Slingbox PRO pt.2

There were no problems connecting to the Slingbox PRO on the same network, via Wi-Fi at work, and at the airport whilst travelling, and can certainly see the appeal of being able to watch Sky Sports, or catch up with the latest episode of Ugly Betty that's been recorded. There are only two downsides to report and both are fairly minor. Slingbox has refrained from supporting Wi-Fi. This means that if your router is not in the same room as your input sources then you could have a problem. However, you can get around this by using a wireless gaming adaptor or some type of powerline or homeplug networking device. Slingbox itself ships a SlingLink Turbo bundle which is 85Mbps Home Plug based, though any brand will do fine. Secondly, although the Slingbox's IR blasters can simulate just about any remote control, they can't operate more than two devices in a home entertainment system. For optimal operation, Sling Media recommends one blaster per device you'd like to control. If you want to handle more, a good solution is to purchase the HD Connect adapter. This adds another twin IR blaster. Conclusion The PRO is still unique, and extremely effective. If you're the sort of person who consumes video, TV, and music, and wants to have the widest possible variety of viewing options, including access to your Sky HD or V+ box you'll understand exactly what's so cool about it. It even supports hi-definition devices. Verdict The Slingbox Pro is a class act, and a great way of distributing your TV. A great upgrade from the original Classic.
