Adele has scooped four nominations for this year's BRIT Awards, which take place on Wednesday 24 February at London's O2 Arena. She is one of three artists to find themselves up for four gongs, alongside spindly-legged rock star James Bay and synth-pop outfit Years & Years.

It has of course been a stellar couple of months for Adele, whose third album 25 – released in November – became the fastest-selling album of all-time in the UK. The singer also enjoyed a number one single with Hello and smashed Vevo records online. The icing on the cake is a host of BRIT nominations, for British Female, British Single, MasterCard British Album of the Year and British Artist Video of the Year. Who's to bet against her winning the lot?

Hat-wearing bluesman James Bay has had a handy year himself, kicking off with winning the BRITs Critics' Choice Award at the start of 2015 before notching a smash debut album with Chaos And The Calm. To cap it all, he's up for British Male, British Breakthrough Act, British Single and MasterCard British Album of the Year.

Years & Years enjoyed a similarly propulsive start to last year, winning the BBC Sound of 2015 poll and then grabbing a number one single with King. Their reward is a quartet of nominations – for British Group, British Breakthrough Act, British Single and British Artist Video of the Year.

Other popstars up for the big prizes include Jess Glynne, Coldplay (in line for a record number of wins in the British Group and MasterCard British Album of the Year categories), Mark Ronson and One Direction, but let's not hang about – here's the full list of nominations for The BRIT Awards 2016:
