The promising young actor first began acting as a child but it was his breakout role as Pavel Chekov in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek in 2009 and it’s 2013 sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness where he really impressed audiences and critics alike. Despite a short career, he packed in a lot of great roles in the likes of Alpha Dog, Like Crazy and this year’s Green Room, where he played a band member facing off neo-Nazis alongside Patrick Stewart.
Star Trek director JJ Abrams posted a handwritten note on twitter paying tribute to the young star, saying, “You weren’t here nearly long enough”.
Yelchin reprised his role as brainbox Chekov in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, in cinemas this summer.
