The legendary Kardashians are back on our screens, with the second half of the show’s twelfth season premiering on Monday 24th October on E!. We can’t wait to welcome the bickering, loving and luxurious, family back into our homes again. Though we’ll admit that so much happens on the show that it can be a bit of a challenge to keep track of it all. We heard your call for help. Here’s a round up of what happened in season 12A, and what to expect on 12B. And if you’re just getting into things and need a quick Kardashian explainer, we’ve thrown that in too. You’re welcome!

Help! I don’t know anything about the Kardashians

The actual Kardashians

Yeah, we agree, they can be all a bit confusing. Bear with us - it’s a big family!

It all starts like this: Robert Kardashian (who has since passed away) and Kris Houghton had three daughters: Kourtney, Kim and Khloé as well as a son, Rob. The four, plus their mum star on the show. But as you’ve already guessed, that’s not all.

The Jenners

After divorcing Robert Kardashian, Kris got remarried to decathlon Olympic champion Bruce Jenner, with whom she had two daughters, Kendall and Kylie. The two sisters also feature on the show. Bruce starred as well, pretty much up until his gender transition in 2015. She is now known as Caitlyn Jenner, and at the moment only makes guest appearances. Brady, Bruce’s son from a previous marriage also occasionally shows up. Still with us? Great. Now we’re moving on to the family’s significant others’, who’ve also become integral characters.

The significant others

What with Keeping Up… being all about family life, it’s only natural that the siblings’ significant others would make up a large part of the story. Perhaps our favourite for ridiculous antics is Scott Disick, Kourtney’s former partner, with whom she has three children. Meanwhile in what we thought was the family’s best romance, Khloé married basketball player Lamar Odom, who made regular appearances on the show. To our great despair, they’ve however been on the verge of divorce for a good while. Kim’s current husband, Kayne West, has appeared in several episodes before though he’s for now chosen to take a step back.

The spin-offs

With a show as successful as this one, there’s naturally a bunch of spin-offs (if you’re looking to ‘katch up’), including Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami, Kourtney & Kim Take Miami, Khloé & Lamar, Kourtney & Kim Take New York, as well as Kourtney & Kim Take the Hamptons. They all pretty much do what they say on the tin - follow the characters about in a new locale, or the day to day life of the couple. Plus there’s I Am Cait, a documentary series that was all about Caitlyn Jenner in the aftermath of her transition for two seasons.

Where did the end of the last season leave off?

The start of season 12 saw the Kardashians reeling after news that Rob is dating his sister’s Kylie’s ex’s ex (did that make sense?) Blac Chyna. The family’s struggle to accept the couple is an on-going theme through the season, especially after the two get engaged, and announce that they’re expecting a baby. But the Kardashians end up welcoming Chyna.  Sort of. But unfortunately, by the season’s last episode, Rob had moved out of the couple’s house. You can totally delve into the whole story in more detail in the spin-off show Rob & Chyna, which is now airing on E!

We also followed Khloé as she comes to terms with Lamar’s accident and recovery (he was found comatose) and files again for divorce. They’d halted their separation so that she could help take care of him during his convalescence. Meanwhile, Scott is working out what his place in the family is, and fights to win Kourtney back. Everyone expects things to work out between them, though neither really seems to know how to fix things.

And let’s not forget the holidays to Cuba, Colorado and Napa; Kourtney struggling through her first public speech in ages (delivered in London!); Khloé and Rob fighting over his new house, which Kris bought him; and Kylie struggling with her celebrity status. It’s been a packed few months!

What kan we expect in Season 12B?

Awfully, poor Kim’s been everywhere in the news following being robbed at gunpoint in Paris. We’d expect the new season’s later episodes to show how she recovers from the experience. Otherwise, you can certainly expect some Rob-Chyna drama; stuff about Khloé’s new boyfriend, basketball player Tristan Thompson; and continued dithering between Kourtney and Scott. Looks from the trailer too that there’ll be some more travel to exotic locales, as well as tension between Kim and her mother. Can’t wait!
