Universal confirms its Dark Universe plansby Simon Brew

A cinematic universe full of monster is confirmed by Universal – and Bride Of Frankenstein is next…

When The Mummy – headlined by Tom Cruise – lands in cinemas in a couple of weeks, it’s going to kickstart in earnest Universal’s planned classic monsters cinematic universe. Only now it has a new name. By the power of press release, we learn it’s going to be called the Dark Universe.

The Dark Universe will be overseen by The Mummy director Alex Kurtzman, Fast & Furious producer and writer Chris Morgan, writer and director Christopher McQuarrie (currently shooting Mission: Impossible 6) and writer/producer David Koepp (Jurassic Park). The Dark Universe will also have a posh logo, accompanied by a Danny Elfman piece of music.

Universal has also confirmed that Bride Of Frankenstein is heading into production shortly, with Beauty & The Beast and Gods & Monsters director Bill Condon behind the camera. A release date of Thursday February 14th 2019 has been confirmed for that project as well.

And have some casting, too. Johnny Depp will play The Invisible Man in the Dark Universe, whilst Javier Bardem is set to be Frankenstein’s monster. They join Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella and Russell Crowe, already cast in Dark Universe roles.

More on the assorted Dark Universe films as we hear it. All eyes on The Mummy next, then…
