Nintendo's biggest failure
UK release:3rd May, 2002
Current price:£49.99
Worldwide userbase:21 million
The GameCube represents Nintendo's biggest single failure, as both a console manufacturer and a games developer.
The console itself was far more powerful than many people realised but for the first time many of Nitnendo's own games, particularly Zelda and Mario, failed to live up to their reputation.
Nevertheless it still played host to some classic titles including Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, F-Zero GX and Pikmin.
Since the Wii is 100% backwards compatible with the GameCube though there's little point buying the old console now unless you're on a real budget.
Graphical power:5/10
Software support:3/10
Online?No*
Longevity:R.I.P.
* Technically the GameCube did have a broadband adapter but it was only used by a handful of games, most notably Sega's Phantasy Star Online series.
