You can a read a detailed overview of the PS3's already turbulent history elsewhere on Virgin Media, where you'll discover the most powerful console ever made has had a surprisingly rough time so far.
Much of that is to do with Sony's arrogant PR spin though, and although the U.S. launch games have so far not impressed, the console itself has with a surprisingly capable (and free) online service, every multimedia function you could imagine (including connecting to the PSP) and support for Blu-ray movies.
As with previous PlayStations though, the console's future is still dependent on it maintaining its stable of exclusive games, some of which like Grand Theft Auto IV and Dragon Quest IX have already been lost, or at least shared, with Microsoft and Nintendo.
Even so it's still the only console with games like Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII - and seemingly the only console that can do them justice too
