The success or otherwise of Microsoft's first console is difficult to quantify, not least because its lifespan was cut artificially short by the release of the Xbox 360.
However it featured the best graphics of the last generation and Xbox Live - easily the best online console service.
Although it saw the debut of the classic Halo series, other exclusives were thin on the ground, with virtually no support from Japanese developers.
Nevertheless games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Ninja Gaiden and Fable helped the console establish a niche for itself and with the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility not 100% reliable the original Xbox is still worth picking up for cheap.
