Is Halo: The Movie doomed?

Halo: The Movie looks to be on a distant horizon

The relationship between videogames and films has always been a rocky one.

For game makers tired of being pigeonholed as outside the mainstream and "for geeks", movies look sexy, glamorous and lusciously mass market.

For movie studios, the videogame industry's enormous annual revenues make them frankly sick with envy. The result is a series of deeply questionable crossover products.

"Halo's metamorphosis into a motion picture hasn't been a fairy tale."

The latest franchise to begin its flirtation with the other side is Halo.

Conceived by Bungie Studios as a Mac game before being bought by Microsoft and made into the Xbox's killer application, anyone who has spent any significant time with Halo or its sequel can be relied upon to tell you (in considerable detail) exactly how well it lives up to its hype.

Sadly Halo's metamorphosis into a motion picture hasn't been quite such a fairy tale.
