PC killed the console star?

Command & Conquer 3

PC games are back in the charts again

Speaking in an interview with website Adrenaline Vault he added, "My prediction is that the game console in the vein of the PS3 and Xbox 360 is going to either undergo a massive rethink or go away altogether", he added.

"The hardcore gamers are going to either be playing on their PCs or a new PC-like platform that sits in the living room but still serves the whole house over Wi-Fi, even the video signal."

That's probably a touch optimistic, especially coming from someone whose only console game is the dreadful Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, but it's not a point of view that would ever have been expressed a few years ago - let alone taken seriously.

"Many have decided that if consoles are only going to mimic what a PC does anyway they will stick with their computers."

The catalyst for this change has been twofold, with the high price of the PlayStation 3 and the fact that both it and the Xbox 360 seem to be encroaching ever further into PC territory in terms of media features.

Whereas Sony in particular clearly wanted people to give up on their PCs completely, many seem to have decided that if consoles are only going to mimic what a PC does anyway they may as well just stick with their computers.

For the first time in ages this year has already seen a PC exclusive at number one, with real-time strategy game Command & Conquer 3 occupying the top spot for two straight weeks.
