Jetpac Refuelled
Every year, games publishers hold their best releases back for Christmas.
It's not entirely unreasonable - more than half the year's videogames are sold in November and December - but it leaves long stretches of the year when there's a noticeable and debilitating drought of new software.
This year is shaping up to be a bad one, with only the Xbox 360 emerging with any respectability. What are we supposed to do all summer? Here are our suggestions...
1. Play Web games
They're free, you normally don't even need to download anything and there are more and more genuinely great ones out there.
Check out our selection here.
2. Get into retro gaming...
...at your peril. While the odd classic is re-emerging (tried Jetpac Refuelled on Xbox 360? Lovely!) as a true delight, many prove just too limited by today's high standards and will ruin good memories. If you don't care about that, search for arcade emulators here.

Advance Wars
3. Discover Advance Wars
In the opinion of some, the best game ever invented, although not if you have a restless trigger finger, given that its turn-based combat requires no dexterity whatsoever - just a keen mind and a desire to eradicate tiny cartoon invading armies.
Search for Advance Wars here.
