When you first start to use Virgin Media, your email address looks like this:
- account.name@virginmedia.com, or
- account.name@ntlworld.com, or
- account.name@blueyonder.co.uk
where account.name is your Virgin Media account name/reference, for example ab001a001.
But don’t worry, as part of the activation process, you can change the first part of your email address to anything you like, for example:
- your.name@virginmedia.com, or
- your.name@ntlworld.com, or
- your.name@blueyonder.co.uk
In the next section, we describe how to use your email address to send and receive emails.
Using your email address
If you want to send and receive your email using a software program such as Outlook Express, Mail for Vista or Mail for Mac, it’s easy to do. Just click on the email software you use from the list below, and we’ll help you set things up:
- Setting up Outlook Express 6
- Setting up Windows Mail for Vista
- Setting up Mail for Mac OS 10.3
- Setting up Mail for Mac OS 10.1 and 10.2
An alternative to using email software, like the ones above, is to use webmail. Webmail does not require email software – you simply need a web browser. To sign in to webmail using your email address, click here.
If you only need the email address you created during activation, you're ready to go. However, if you want to create extra email addresses, and manage the mailbox containing these extra addresses, read on.
Creating additional email addresses
Want to create some extra email addresses? They’re useful if you want to everyone in your family to have their own email address, but still use your account.
There are two steps to creating a new Virgin Media email address:
- Create the email address in Selfcare. To find out how to do this, click here.
- Set up the email address in your email program, such as Outlook Express or Mail for Mac. You only need to do this if you intend to use an email program to access your email.
Before you get started, though, you might want to find out more about mailboxes. Your mailbox stores the email addresses that you create, making it easier to see at a glance what email addresses you have, and to edit or delete them if you want to.
