To resolve Error 550 on a Mac, do the following:
- Start up Mail.
- From the Mail menu, select Preferences, as shown below:
- From the General window, select Accounts as shown below:

The following screen displays:
- From the left pane, choose the non-Virgin Media account whose details you want to check.
- Change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to the correct setting. This should be as follows, depending on whether your email address ends in @ntlworld or @blueyonder.co.uk:
Outgoing mail server for @ntlworld.com: smtp.ntlworld.com
Outgoing mail server for @blueyonder.co.uk: smtp.blueyonder.co.uk - If the there are any other non-Virgin Media accounts listed in this screen, repeat steps 4 – 5 for each of them.
- To end the procedure, close the window.
