Checking your mail server on a Mac

To resolve Error 550 on a Mac, do the following:

  1. Start up Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, select Preferences, as shown below:




  3. From the General window, select Accounts as shown below:



    The following screen displays:




  4. From the left pane, choose the non-Virgin Media account whose details you want to check.
  5. Change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to the correct setting. This should be as follows, depending on whether your email address ends in @ntlworld or @blueyonder.co.uk:

    Outgoing mail server for @ntlworld.com: smtp.ntlworld.com
    Outgoing mail server for @blueyonder.co.uk: smtp.blueyonder.co.uk
  6. If the there are any other non-Virgin Media accounts listed in this screen, repeat steps 4 – 5 for each of them.
  7. To end the procedure, close the window.

That’s it! Try again to access your email, and see how you go.
