To check that your Vista PC is set up to obtain an IP address automatically:
- From your desktop, click on Start and then click on Control Panel. The following window displays:
- Click on Network and Sharing Center.

The Network and Sharing Center screen displays. - In the Tasks column on the left, click on Manage network connections.

- Locate the LAN connection, and right click on the icon to display a sub-menu. Select Properties from the sub menu.
- From the Networking tab, click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and make sure the checkbox is checked. Click on Properties.

The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window displays. - Make sure that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected, as shown below:

If either is not selected, click in the circle to insert the green dot. - Click on OK to return to the Networking tab. Click on OK again to exit.


That's it! Your PC is set up to obtain an IP address automatically.
