Preston Traffic Management Trial

Over the coming months, we’ll be conducting a trial on the way we manage our network in certain parts of the country. During these months, we’ll be making a few changes to our Traffic Management policy, to help us figure out how to improve the quality of service we provide to our customers.

Our Traffic Management policy makes sure our service is fair for everybody, by occasionally moderating speeds for the top 5% of customers who are downloading and/or uploading an unusually large amount of data.

The aim of this trial is to enhance the way we do this, limit the number of people who have their speeds moderated and ultimately improve the service we deliver to all our customers.

So, what’s changing?

We are currently trialling 2 Traffic Management policies in Preston. To find out what policy applies to you, you’ll need to find out what part of the Preston network you are connected to.

To do this, please use the following link: tools.virginmedia.com where you will be directed to the following screen:

If part of your ‘Client Host Name’ is listed as …cable.ubr01.pres… (as highlighted above) you will be on Version A of the Trial policy. If you are connected to another part of the Preston network you will be on Version B of the trial policy.

So, what’s changing?

The Trial policies are shown below; however, since it’s a trial, both policies can change at any time. All that means is that it’s a good idea to check this page regularly if you want to see the latest version.

Please not that Size: S, L and XXL customers are not affected.

Version A (For all customers on cable.ubr01.pres.)

Version B (For all other Preston customers)
