Mail via Atom RSS
Atom is a system which makes it easy for you to receive, in one place, regular updates from news websites, blogs, and/or Virgin Media Mail.
You can use Atom with an aggregator (also known as a newsreader, feed reader, or RSS/Atom reader) to receive new message alerts. Each alert will include a preview of the message and a link to Virgin Media Mail.
To use Virgin Media Mail with Atom, you must already have an aggregator. Within your aggregator, look for a selection titled 'Add Feed' or 'Create New Channel.' Once there, enter 'http://mail.virginmedia.com/mail/feed/atom' in the URL field, and enter your Virgin Media Mail address and password in the fields provided. This will allow the aggregator to look for your new messages.
If you'd like to have a label view in your aggregator, just add the label name to the end of the feed URL. So, to view your 'work' label as a feed, it's http://mail.virginmedia.com/mail/feed/atom/work/.
Please keep in mind that Virgin Media Mail messages will appear in your aggregator only if there are unread messages in your inbox.
Most problems in viewing Virgin Media Mail messages with an aggregator can be traced to a few common causes. If you're experiencing problems, please check the points below. Also keep in mind that Virgin Media Mail messages won't appear in your aggregator unless there are unread messages in your inbox.
Make sure you entered http://mail.virginmedia.com/mail/feed/atom in the URL field. Also, verify that your Virgin Media Mail address and password are spelled and formatted correctly.
Your aggregator must support ATOM 0.3, SSL/https, and HTTP authentication in order to work with Virgin Media Mail.
We've found that some aggregators work with Virgin Media Mail if users change the feed URL to include their Virgin Media Mail username and password. You may want to try using the following format for your link URL: username:password@mail.virginmedia.com/mail/feed/atom. Please be aware that this link format makes your password visible in your aggregator's subscription list.
If none of these steps resolve the problem, please contact your aggregator's support team for help diagnosing the issue.
To view Virgin Media Mail messages in your aggregator, just subscribe to a new feed, enter http://mail.virginmedia.com/mail/feed/atom in the URL field, and submit your Virgin Media Mail address and password. You don't need to do a thing from within your Virgin Media Mail account; you do it all from within your aggregator.
We recommend setting your aggregator to check for new Virgin Media Mail messages once every ten minutes.
Keep in mind when you subscribe to your Virgin Media Mail feed that some aggregators allow you to share, syndicate, or otherwise re-publish the feeds you subscribe to. This means that even though your Virgin Media Mail feed is private, its contents could be made public through one of these methods. So you'll want to double-check the privacy settings in your aggregator to make sure you aren't sharing any information you don't want to. Specific instructions will vary depending on what aggregator you're using.
Also keep in mind that Virgin Media Mail messages won't appear in your aggregator unless there are unread messages in your inbox.
Any aggregator that supports Atom 0.3, SSL/HTTPS, and HTTP authentication will work with Virgin Media Mail's Atom feed. We've had luck with the following third-party aggregators:
Windows
Mac OS X
Linux
