Scientists claim they have discovered a “fat” virus that can be picked up like a cold. The bug, named AD-36, is thought to cause weight gain in its victims by entering the lungs and spreading through out the body.
The new research by US scientists suggests the virus is picked up by coughing and sneezing and forces fat cells to multiply. It is also thought to cause sore throats.
Among all adults, weight discrimination ranks fourth after gender, age and race discrimination. For women, it ranks third behind gender and age. In the UK, there are a number of things people will find it difficult, even impossible, to do if they are overweight.
Here we take a look at some things the larger people among us may find it difficult to do.
Any applicant hoping to adopt is assessed for their lifelong child-caring abilities as well as their physical health, which is where the weight card comes into play. A healthy married couple from Leeds were recently turned down for adoption on account of the fact the 24 stone husband had a BMI (body mass index) of 42 and was therefore considered obese.
To adopt, your BMI must be below 40, although if you are turned down because of your weight your application will remain active until you have lost weight.
