Dishwasher tablets
Are you baffled by the hundreds of different cleaning products on the supermarket aisles?
Unsure whether to turn to Mr Muscle or the Toilet Duck for best cleaning results? We get down and dirty with some of the leading brands of cleaning products.
All of the adverts for dishwasher tablets promise that they’ll do amazing things to your crockery, so we pitched three brands against the horror of the tea-stained mug.
Best performance
As you would expect it turns out that none of them are quite as effective as the adverts would have you believe.
However, Fairy Original (22p per wash) did the best job overall. It had a good go at the tea stains and left pans and cutlery sparkling, plates and bowls shiny like new.
Best price
Finish Powerball was the most expensive at 24p per wash, although there was some discussion about whether to give credit to the product’s claim that it has ten cleaning actions in one. The quality was almost as good as Fairy but nowhere near on the tea stain removal.
Best for the environment
Not only were Ecover Ecological tables the best price (at 18p per wash) but they are also the most environmentally-friendly of all three and the only phosphate free tablet, which is important for the effect of phosphates on our waterways and aquatic life.
That said, Ecover did not match up to the high standards that Fairy set and was by far the least effective at clearing up those tea-stained mugs.
