Luxury car makers
As thousands of city traders, executives and hedge fund managers were booted out of their jobs last year during the banking crisis the rest of us wondered what it would mean for us.
So as the recession moves out of finance and into the broader economy, we countdown the sectors that could be badly hit over the next 12 months.
Why? While most large car manufacturers like Ford, Nissan and BMW can afford to mothball their UK factories and put staff on part-time shifts (with the help of government bailouts), luxury car makers are much more exposed as orders shrivel, and the jobs are now beginning to tumble.
Jobs already gone: 2,500
Number of jobs likely to go: 1,500+
Recent redundancies: Aston Martin (600); Bentley (200); Rolls Royce (40); Jaguar Land Rover (1,000).
