Jobs not beaten by the credit crunch
One of the things we careers writers always warn against is negativity: avoid the neg-heads in the office, don’t bemoan your job or whinge about your colleagues etc. But when the media is full of reports of more job losses and major companies going bust, it is sometimes difficult to see where the silver lining to this recession cloud can be found.
Yet despite the threat of some 600,000 more people joining the ranks of the unemployed by the end of 2009, there is some optimism to be had.
Indeed, new figures released by the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development in December revealed that 60 per cent of workers were confident that they would get a pay rise this year compared to just 2 per cent who think they will get a cut in their salary.
A number of UK organisations plan to recruit more staff throughout the next twelve months. So what sectors are hiring new people in the UK?
