Apparently the credit crunch is bringing us Brits closer together.
According to recent research conducted for Energy Saving Week (20-26 October), we’re far more likely to get up close and personal to save the pennies than our European counterparts.
A survey of 6,000 adults across five European countries (UK, Spain, France, Germany and Sweden) showed that we’re far less shy when the chance to save money is at stake.
- 36 per cent of Britons would share a bath or shower compared to just 8 per cent of Swedes
- Only a quarter of Spaniards and French would cuddle up in bed to keep warm, whilst over a third of Brits (36 per cent) would happily hop into bed together
And what’s the cheapest form of home entertainment you can enjoy? Getting busy in the bedroom of course…
While the research is actually aimed at promoting a greener lifestyle, the credit crunch kicking in, means the findings pack more of a punch. Benjamin Fry, one of the UK’s leading financial psychology experts is working with the Energy Saving Trust to deliver the message that saving energy means saving money.
“This research shows that saving energy and money at the same time need not be dull. Judging by how it’s turning up the temperature on Britons’ love lives, with so many of us taking romantic energy saving measures to beat the credit crunch, doing your bit to help climate change has suddenly become a lot more attractive.”, says Mr Fry.
He also added; “According to the Energy Saving Trust, the average household can save around £340 a year by being more energy-efficient and with the credit crunch unlikely to ease any time soon, there has never been a better time to start finding positive motivations for living a greener life.”
