Renault Twizy
Just a few short years ago, electric cars seemed like the unrealistic pipedreams of lentil-eating tree-huggers. How times have changed. Now, every carmaker worth their salt has plans to go fully electric, or add electric motors to create hybrid cars, as we can see from the concepts on show at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
OK, so the Twizy looks as funny as its name, but a two-seat tandem electric car isn’t such a crazy idea.
Motorbike and scooter sales have increased hugely in recent years, so a car/bike hybrid powered by electricity seems to be the perfect commuter vehicle.
The Twizy has a 20bhp motor, a top speed of 47mph and the acceleration of a 125cc motorbike. And you have the choice of plugging it in and charging it up or swapping the battery. Crazy, but it just might work...
