It’s been one of TV’s most closely guarded secrets but after months of speculation the identity of Top Gear’s the Stig has finally been revealed.
At the urging of a studio audience, and to the delight of viewers watching at home, the famous white helmet was removed last night to reveal the face of Michael Schumacher.
The Stig, who never speaks to camera, finally broke his silence as Clarkson quizzed Schumacher about the rumours surrounding the mystery, asking: "Are you illegal in 17 US states?"
The seven-time Formula One world champion replied: "No, it's much exaggerated. It's only nine."
Fans had speculated that the role was shared by several drivers, and following the big reveal some viewers were left unconvinced.
