Yamaha Super-Tenere
Tokyo '09 has unfortunately been dubbed ‘the show that no-one went to’ because of the lack of big name manufacturers. In fact, the only European companies exhibiting were Lotus and Caterham. The story was similar in the motorcycle hall with BMW and Ducati being conspicuous by their absence, but there were still some great new bikes on display from domestic manufacturers and Harley-Davidson.
Tenere is a region of the Sahara desert and the original Yamaha model dominated the Paris-Dakar rally in the ‘90s.
This concept previews the 1200cc model due next year which will feature traction control, ABS, a torquey twin-cylinder motor and linked brakes. The cloth bodywork of the show bike is unlikely to make production, however.
