AVOID SUMMER DRIVING STRESS!

4. Fill up
There’s nothing worse than staring nervously at that fuel gauge as it hovers just above the empty mark as you shift around nervously in your seat. Once filled up, plan a mark in your head when you think you’re comfortable with re-filling, such as the quarter tank mark.

5. It’s a bug’s life!
It’s not only us humans that like to get out and travel during hot summer days. All manner of insects and creepy crawlies take to the skies and, inevitably, collide with your windscreen. It makes a terrible mess and can quickly impair a driver’s vision. Did you fill up with windscreen wash or do you also now have compound vision like your squished friends? Also check the state of your windshield wipers and clean your side mirrors and rear window from existing grime before you depart.

6. Have a break
So now you’re properly prepared, you hit the road for that three and a half hour journey from Hertfordshire to Cheshire. The route is picturesque but you’re getting cramped from your driving posture and the heat is making you feel sleepy. Take a break. There’s always that next service station or, better still, a nice country pub to pull in to, stretch your legs and take on refreshment before hitting the road a revitalised driver.

7. Be sun safe
Let’s be honest, there’s only so much a windscreen blind can do to shield your eyes from the glare of the sun. How many times have you scrambled around in your bag only to remember that you’ve left your shades on the mantelpiece? Sun glasses greatly reduce direct glare from the sun and it’s reflection off the road and makes for safer driving. Being stuck in the car for long periods in the summer also means you’re going to burn. Did you remember to apply that sun screen?
