HAMSTER'S BEST BITS
1. HAMSTER HYPNOTISED
In arguably the funniest ever Top Gear moment, Richard Hammond is hypnotised by Paul McKenna so that he totally forgets how to drive a car.
The scene is the Top Gear test circuit and the dialogue that follows is priceless.
Paul McKenna: “So shall we go then?â€?
Richard Hammond: “Give us a sec, I just want to think about this because obviously I drive a lot of different cars so you just have to familiarise yourself with it.â€?
Paul McKenna: “How does this one start, do you think?â€?
Richard Hammond: “You start it in the usual, urm, there’s a, urm, button. No, actually, there’ll be a starter thing there.â€?
Paul McKenna: “I think that’s the cigarette lighter.â€?
Richard Hammond: “Yes it is. Urm . . . these make it hot if you turn them, so it’s quite well equipped.â€?
Richard then stumbles upon the key in the ignition.
Richard Hammond: “You do this.â€? The car promptly stalls because it’s in first gear. “Oh! That’s bad. You’ve stopped it there. So you start it with the usual urm . . . for God’s sake! Well the usual thing. You start the thing up and you go!â€? Richard is now pressing random buttons and winds the electric window down.
Paul McKenna: “Can you not remember how to drive this?â€?
Richard Hammond: “Urm, yes. I know how to drive it – it’s my job . . . oh for God’s sake!â€?
Paul McKenna: “Is it one of those?â€? He points to a light which Richard turns on.
Richard Hammond: “No. it’s the . . . it’s the urm, big control.â€?
Paul McKenna: “Oh, the big control. What does this do?â€? He points to the gear lever.
Richard Hammond: “That turns it. You can go left or right or faster or slower. It’s a joystick.â€?
McKenna then puts Hammond back to sleep and when he comes round again, he can remember exactly how to drive the car. Still under McKenna’s spell later in the studio, Richard is convinced that a toy electric 911 turbo is his brand new 911 turbo and he proceeds to take it for a spin around the studio.
