She meets Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a charismatic Irish guitar player, at a party. It's a case of mutual love at first sight as they bond over their shared love of music. It's the most wonderful night in Lyla's life but she must rush back to the hotel where her father, Thomas (William Sadler), is waiting for her. Lyla has promised to meet Louis in Washington Square, but her father forces her to go to her next concert. The young lovers are cruelly separated and Lyla is now left with child. Tragically, Lyla is in a car accident and the unborn child is lost. Eleven years have passed when Lyla's father makes the death bed confession that he secretly gave her baby boy up for adoption.
