Josip Broz Tito (Burton), commander of the Yugoslav National Liberation Army (YNLA), leads the partisans in a fight against the Axis forces occupying their country. Held captive by the Nazis in a remote mountain area in northern Montenegro, the Yugoslavs finally manage to break out, despite being hugely outnumbered, though they lose thousands of troops in the process.
