The Grid Iron Gang

THE GIST

The Rock plays a real life probation officer who starts a detention centre football team in San Fernando.

THE PLOT

The Rock is Sean Porter, a real life probation officer who started a detention centre American football team called The Mustangs in 1992 and somehow persuaded prison officers to allow his team of bad boys to compete against other sides in San Fernando. Naturally, his superiors regard his decision with a mix of scepticism and hilarity, reasoning that the likes of young delinquent Willie and eccentric Kenny will scupper his attempts to direct their rage.

THE GOOD

It doesn't shy away from the reality of life as a young offender, meaning that amid the gun violence, vicious fights and profanity, there is enough here to give you food for thought.

THE BAD

It's a cliched sort of film which has a few scenes that simply don't ring true.

AND THE VERDICT

An ever so slightly thought provoking and fairly entertaining film which is a welcome departure for the ex-wrestler.
