Biffy Clyro

Simon Neil was 15 when he first got together with twins James and Ben Johnston and started playing gigs as a grungey band under the name Skrewfish. They re-named themselves Biffy Clyro (but have never given a serious explanation why) and after playing on the Unsigned Bands stage at T In The Park festival, they were signed by indie label Beggars Banquet, who released the singles 27 and Justboy, followed by the album Blackened Sky in 2002. Its successor, the more experimental The Vertigo Of Bliss in 2003 widened their appeal, but it was their fourth album Puzzle in 2006 which signalled their mainstream breakthrough, including the singles Semi-Mental and Saturday Superhouse. They subsequently became big festival favourites and played high-profile support slots with The Rolling Stones, Muse, The Who, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Bon Jovi and Queens of the Stone Age. In 2008 they scored their biggest hit single with Mountains.
