Just a few weeks before Janis Joplin passed away, hard rock pioneer Jimi Hendrix died in Notting Hill, London shortly before his 28th birthday. Murder allegations have occasionally emerged in the years since, but the official record states Hendrix choked on his own vomit. Over the three years leading up to his death, The Jimi Hendrix Experience had changed the face of rock with Hendrix's own startling guitar-playing and three classic albums, Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland. Posthumously, Hendrix reached Number One in the UK singles chart with Voodoo Chile.
