What music taught us this year
Some larger than life characters died in 2010, and among those mourned by the world of music was punk pioneer Malcolm McLaren, the man who masterminded The Sex Pistols' look and the spirit of their snotty spit 'n' drool swagger. 2010 also saw us bid farewell to oddball jazz-blues maestro Captain Beefheart, real name Don Van Vliet, former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable, soul man Solomon Burke, metal legend Ronnie James Dio and folk star Kate McGarrigle.
