When fans attack
The most notorious Reading festival ever happened in 1988. Suffering an identity crisis after years as a heavy rock weekender, the Saturday and Sunday night line-ups pleased nobody. Hothouse Flowers, Deacon Blue and Bonnie Tyler all ended their sets prematurely after being bottled offstage. Meat Loaf stood up to the barrage of flying mud and glass and yelled at the audience, "Do you want to listen or do you want to throw s**t?" The crowd's response: "Throw s**t!"
