The Maccabees
This South London five-piece, fronted by the fabulously named Orlando Weeks, look set to follow in the grand tradition of such quintessentially English guitar bands as The Kinks, The Clash, Blur and The Smiths: all urgent guitars and driving rhythms jousting with quality songwriting. Weeks writes articulate lyrics with a quirky take on everyday life, delivered with yearning and passion in an impressive tenor for one so young.
Much like their devout fans, NME went crazy for recent single First Love (produced by Blur favourite Stephen Street) and if their MySpace site is anything to go by, the forthcoming album's collection of songs should be equally impressive. 2007's Kaiser Chiefs, anyone?
