Van Morrison: "At The Movies"
Not so much a new album but rather a fresh collection of Van Morrison classics that have accompanied various movie scenes in the past.
Van's immense body of work is one of the most popular choices for soundtrack music and some of the biggest filmmakers in history have used his songs for their most celebrated projects.
Big Van fan Martin Scorsese is represented here twice with a previously unreleased live version of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb (from Berlin featuring members of The Band) as featured in his Oscar nominated pic The Departed, along with Wonderful Remark from King Of Comedy. There's also Them's essential Van classic Gloria as featured in Francis Ford Coppolla's The Outsiders, Baby Please Don't Go from David Lynch's Wild At Heart and Wild Night as heard in Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise.
However, it's probably Moondance that will be Van's defining movie moment, a song that featured in John Landis's genre-defining horror - An American Werewolf In London. The upbeat song was used in contrast to the gruesome visuals, in this instance the infamous changing into a werewolf scene.
