Available only as a downloadable double album, Elephant's Graveyard is a 28-track long chronological ramble through the vaults of Harcourt's unreleased demos and b-sides, from his earliest solo stuff of five years ago through to the near present day.
What strikes one listening to this is the short journey most of his material must take from inception to "proper" recording. These demos, many of which were recorded on 4-track machines, would certainly pass muster on all but the most demanding of hi-fis up and down the land. Not just because of the sound quality; most of these versions have an energy, a truth, about them that suggest whatever this guy puts - or slings - together, is going to work. Songs like I've Become Misguided, Here Be Monsters and the raucous Alligator Boy just go to prove what a talent - nay, national treasure - Ed Harcourt is.
Ignore this, and him, at your peril.
