Hailing from Sweden, Ms Ruth is yet another female singer/songwriter to emerge from Scandinavia. Counting Dylan and Nick Drake as major influences, Elin Ruth has sold lots of records in her homeland and garnered armfuls of awards, yet she sounds like countless other female singer/songwriters from pretty much anywhere in the world. She is possessed of a nice voice and there's nothing wrong with her tunes exactly, but equally there is nothing in any of them that especially grabs one.

It's all a bit samey; paint-by-numbers music, if you will. She's been compared with the likes of Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell and KT Tunstall. Check out the first two, then listen to Ms Ruth and see if the comparison stacks up. I fear I know the answer already.
