El Presidente frontman Dante Gizzi doesn't see the oft-quoted similarity between his Glaswegian four-piece and the Scissor Sisters. He should get his head out of his arse, quite frankly.
There's nothing essentially wrong with the former Gun bass player's new outfit, who offer up a modern take on the more alternative aspects of 1980s pop. But apart from Gizzi's unique vocal style there's not very much original about them either. Sounding like a cross between ex-10CC bloke Lol Creme and Gaz from Supergrass, Gizzi reaches heights of scale that has one fearing for his vocal chords and capacity to reproduce.
El Presidente churn out interesting-ish glammy pop, with tunes a-plenty, full of infectious melody, but while they are almost there with what they do, naggingly something is still missing.
Sure, they do happy-go-lucky with aplomb on the upbeat Without You and downright poppy If You Say Love Me, and they can turn to power on with darker stuff like Rocket and the hypnotic Keep On Walking.
But the similarities with the 'Sisters are clear as day, and although that doesn't mean El Presidente haven't something of their own to offer, they inevitably suffer from the comparison.
