The first reaction on handling Hypo Psycho's CD is "Oh God, not another bunch of wannabe Busted soundalikeys".
But get past the clichéd photos of four young men striking Green Day-esque poses and stacked with too much hair gel and there is actually an interesting album to be found.
Fans of fast and furious pop rock - along the lines of the aforementioned Green Day - will be pleasantly surprised, especially with the liberal doses of ska and punk that are scattered around this record.
The reggae/brass feel to a number of the tunes, such as Stalker Girl and the album's title track, suggest a maturity that belies their youthful appearance. Hard-Fi lite perhaps?
When they rock they do so more credibly than many of their contemporaries, although the overtly American accents grate by the third track. The London-based quartet have recently finished a free tour of schools, a strategy which seems to be the marketing tool of choice for a number of record labels these days in an effort to ensnare the yoof of today.
Expect to pay for their next outing.
