Going solo is a precarious business at the best of times, but former Mis-Teeq member Alesha Dixon gets off on the right foot with this gutsy mishmash of rock and R&B. With a twangy guitar riff that'll have Girls Aloud producers Xenomania breaking out in a cold sweat, stomping great beats that sound like battered dustbin lids, buzzy synths more beefy than a herd of cattle and Alesha's distinctively ballsy vocals on top, Lipstick manages to be high energy without being highly irritating. If she can keep up this pace throughout her debut album (no ballads, please) then it's going to be a corker.
