Kate Bush - King Of The Mountain review

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the eccentric and remarkably influential Kate Bush had slipped quietly into retirement, seeing as she's been gone since 1993's The Red Shoes LP. Fans will be relieved to discover that she's not relaunching herself as an electro-pop diva for the Noughties, nor has her voice lost any of its unique style. If King Of The Mountain is anything to go by, her impending double studio album, Aerial, will be a real treat. Opening with mysterious panning pulses and the whistling of wind - faintly similar to the material of Björk or PJ Harvey (both self-proclaimed fans of Kate Bush) - the song gradually swells into a climax of guitars, crashing drums and spookily layered vocals. As comebacks go, they don't get much better than this.
