We've all woken up after a particularly heavy night out and declared, "I'm never drinking again." If that happens to you every week, it's time to cut down on the booze.
Everyone's heard of binge-drinking. What's incredible is that many people who don't class themselves as heavy drinkers are guilty of binge-drinking.
Just because you avoided drinking all week doesn't mean you can drink all your allocated units on a Saturday night, but by the same token, drinking every day and outside of meal times isn't good for you either.
We're not talking about a glass of wine with dinner - most experts agree that's relatively harmless and can even be beneficial - but if you want to moderate your drinking and reduce your alcohol intake, follow our tips for a lovelier liver and a healthier you.
Pace yourself
Your poor old liver needs about an hour to break down one unit of alcohol. So sip rather than glug, order the occasional non-alcoholic drink during the night and put your glass down every now and again.
Watch what you drink
Spirits and extra strong lagers and ciders contain far more alcohol-per-sip. Drinking lower alcohol tipples will automatically reduce your intake.
Avoid drinking on your own
You'll drink less when you're focussing on something else such as eating or watching TV. And we're more liberal with booze at home, especially with spirits, so use a spirit measure to keep track.
