Uh-oh, January's here. Everyone's going New Year resolution-crazy, but because learning to play guitar, travelling the world and getting promoted all in the same year is a bit much, here are some healthy resolutions that will make you feel on top of the world.
Excess drinking easily occurs during the party season, but you don't have to drink like it's New Year's Eve every Saturday night.
And we're not preaching abstinence; drinking can be a fun, sociable activity but if you binge-drink every weekend, your liver won't like you very much. And in the long run, it just ain't worth it.
So drink moderately, get merry every now and again but if you're drinking three pints of beer a day and more on the weekend, make 2008 your go-slow(er) year.
Food, glorious food. We do love it. Cheesy pizzas, succulent burgers, fish and chips, double chocolate gateau - makes your mouth water.
There's no reason why you shouldn't treat yourself from time to time but eating high-fat foods that are low in nutritional value will make you feel sluggish (and put on weight) in the long term.
Delicious, filling food is available in healthy forms. Swap pizza for pasta and go easy on the cheese. Swap fatty burgers for lean meats and opt for a stir fried Thai takeaway instead of food from your chippie.
Fruit and veg, that is, not Dairylea segments or Babybels.
Yes, eating fresh fruit and/or veg really is key, providing you with tons of vitamins and nutrients. And it doesn't have to be boring.
Grill a load of veg and drizzle with olive oil, Jamie Oliver-style, and season with herbs, salt and pepper, then mix them in with rice, couscous or pasta - add a spoonful of pesto for an even tastier touch.
Eat fruit with yoghurt and a spoonful of honey (it's more like dessert then) or make banana or other fruit smoothies for a treat.
