While there's no clinical proof that acupuncture helps you quit, many smokers rate it highly. Two small needles are left in the ear after treatment and when you feel a craving, you touch an ear lobe. Hypnotherapy is another effective therapy - again it's not clinically proven, but it can help to alter the mind's dependence on smoking.
There are a wealth of stop-smoking books on the market. Find one that works for you and it can give you that extra motivational factor. Books such as Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking have motivated millions of smokers to give up and his worldwide smoking cessation clinics and are endorsed by the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Richard Branson.
Smoking-related diseases cost the NHS a lot of money so there's no end of help waiting for you. You could chat to your GP, pharmacist or NHS Stop-smoking centre, or call the NHS Smoking Helpline on 0800 169 0169 for more advice. Their new programme, Together, has been created to help you give up with information packs, texts, emails and call backs.
And sometimes, the little things help. Try drinking pineapple or grapefruit juice as they make cigarettes taste vile! Your partner/hot date will enjoy kissing you more if you quit, and male smokers can decrease their chances of impotence.
Plus, think of the money you're saving and how you're cutting your chances of cancer, strokes, bronchitis, stomach ulcers and diabetes. And you'll look so much better too, so get on the case.
